When you put flying whales, late night comedy, shooting cannons, awesome music and around 700 technology geeks together in one room for an awards show this is what happens.

Let The Games Begin

I was tasked with leading the social media team for the VIATeC 2013 Tectoria Technology Awards show.  Fortunately for me, I had an awesome team (Nikki, Omer, Jude, Rob, Catriona & Meghan) After setting up and hijacking the VIATeC twitter account, we were already trending in Victoria, BC Canada within a couple hours. I was pretty excited and shared the news with Dan Gunn. His response, was “That’s nice. How about Canada?” I laughed, but by the look on his face, I could tell he was serious. We had our work cut out for us.

 

 

The awards show kept getting more exciting and having a contest really helped to build excitement on twitter. The awards themselves were futuristic looking robots that looked awesome. Inspiring speeches mixed with dialogue and music kept the excitement growing. At one point, just for fun, I checked back into twitter trends and much to my surprise we were actually trending in Canada. This was even with the terrible floods in Calgary and other events going on.
